Two Business Video Trends for the New Year

business video trends 2015

If you look at data related to video and business, you will see that video is exploding. In the new year, that trend will continue. Especially among business owners who are frustrated with social media. And apparently — there are quite a few.

A Manta Research Study of small business owners revealed that 61 percent said they were getting “no results” from their social media efforts. Regardless of the reasons they claimed “no results”, 61 percent is a significant number. In new year, those business owners will be asking the question, “What now?”

Videos with Emotional Impact

For many, I believe the answer will be video. Why? Because, in addition to being somewhat frustrated with social media, business owners in general have a tendency to want to see what they’re paying for.

With video they not only see what they’re paying for, they’ll also feel it if it’s done right — with emotional impact. Only video can offer that powerful emotional impact.

Whiteboard Explainer Videos

The other related trend I see is the continued explosion of animated, explainer-type videos.

If you look at Google Keyword Search trends, you’ll see that a couple of years ago the term “explainer video” didn’t even exist. In the new year, I think most businesses and organizations will use them.

Explainer videos, in particular “whiteboard” explainer videos, are hot. In case you’re not familiar with the term “whiteboard” explainer video, those are the animated videos that simulate a hand quickly drawing with a black marker on a white background.

In addition to being entertaining, studies have shown that this style of visual communication scores high on information recall. For any business or organization that realizes they need to do a better job communicating exactly what they offer, these explainer type videos have proven to be a very effective way to do it.

It’s always a bit tricky trying to predict the future. However, in this case, the future seems quite clear. I don’t mean to suggest that you should ever stop your social media efforts. But if you’re wondering what you can do to make 2015 the year you get more people excited about your business, product, service, or organization, the two trends I discuss here may very well be the way to do it.

  1. Well video trend is here to stay for long, where this will not only generate good business, but at the same time will bring consumers more closer to retailer.

  2. John,

Who is the guy who made the “whiteboard explainer” videos so popular? I remember his drawings in the explainer video of Neurs.

I think the next big thing will be audio podcasting… 🙂

  3. Now that the Internet has become mainstream – I think that the old rule that worked in mainstream media now works on the Internet. People buy from ads that tugs on the heartstrings or something that is so interesting that they end up laughing, being scared or reacting.
