Acer is expanding its line of Chromebooks by expanding the Chromebook itself. The company is set to introduce a new Chromebook, the Acer Chromebook 15. Its the largest of these devices yet and the biggest one available on the market.

The new Acer Chromebook 15 actually has a 15.6-inch display but weighs just less than five pounds. In addition to its biggest-ever display for a Chromebook, Acer says it will utilize the latest in Intel processors.

The Acer Chromebook 15 will be sold with the fifth-generation Intel Core i3 or Intel Celeron processors using Intel’s fifth-generation micro-architecture, a company press release reports.

Jerry Kao, the president of Acer’s Notebook Business Group says in a company statement:

“The Acer Chromebook 15 is a true powerhouse — it provides fast mobile performance and a large display to help customers accomplish more every day.

Acer has been a leader in the Chromebook market, from providing the latest in technology and trailblazing battery life to designing new form factors. We’re driving the category forward again with the world’s first 15.6-inch display Chromebook, the Acer Chromebook 15.”

The 15.6-inch display on the new Chromebook is actually 25 percent bigger than its previous largest, the 13.3-inch model.

Acer also announce that it will be unveiling a version of the Chromebook 13 with a touchscreen.

For those small businesses who’ve been hampered by the size of Chromebooks in the past, this latest device is designed with more productivity in mind.

Acer is offering two options for the larger 15.6-inch display. There’s a full HD 1920×1080 resolution display on the higher-end version of the new Chromebooks. But the company is also offering a less expensive version with an HD 1366×768 resolution display.

A white fabric cover adorns the outer shell on the display. This is a unique feature that you won’t find on too many other devices. And it’s also designed to add some extra grip when transporting the Chromebook 15.

Even if it’s dropped, Acer has designed the device to take a bit of a rough time and still continue working. The company says it can withstand 60kg of force and be dropped from a height of 45cm (about a foot and a half) without sustaining any damage.

Chromebook 15 will be available with either a 16- or 32GB SSD hard drive and either 2GB or 4GB of RAM memory. Acer says the base price on Chromebook 15 will be $249.99.
