Are Shiny, Metallic or Tactile Business Cards the New Norm?

business cards

Moo just announced a new line of shiny, tactile business cards. These design elements have the potential to make your business cards stand out from the sea of plain, matte cards that your clients and contacts have likely collected over the years.

But Moo isn’t the first company to offer these unique design elements for business cards. Vistaprint, Zazzle and more also offer options for creating your own shiny or metallic business cards.

With so many different options out there, it seems that these upgraded cards are starting to become the norm for businesses. Cards without metallic or tactile elements may soon even start looking a bit old-fashioned.

The options for incorporating these elements into business cards are basically endless. You can choose designs with metallic text, metallic backgrounds, dots, stripes, stars, patterns and more. You can even order business cards with gold edges to make them stand out when they’re stacked with a bunch of other cards.

They’re not even necessarily more expensive than other, more traditional business card designs. Most of the options on Zazzle, for instance, range from about $22 to $33 for a pack of 100, though they have some options sold in smaller quantities if you just want to try them out. Cards without foil or metallic elements usually fall at the less expensive end of that spectrum, but aren’t really much cheaper.

They may not work for every single business. If yours falls into a more traditional industry or your branding just doesn’t lend itself to shiny design elements, then they probably aren’t for you. But if you want people to see your business as modern, exciting, and on top of current trends, shiny or tactile business cards may help you achieve that.

In addition, if your business sells paper goods like business cards, this may be a trend worth noting when coming up with new product lines.

Overall, these shiny and metallic elements can really draw people’s attention to your business cards. As long as they look professional and fit with your branding, they can be a real asset to your business. And soon, they may even be so ubiquitous that clients expect them from you.

  1. I think it is important to stand out in this world where everyone is vying for attention. But more than having a shiny card, I think it is more important to be memorable as a person.

  2. Hi Annie, If it’s possible for your business, I really like the idea of useable business cards.

I’ve seen bolt tightening mental business cards advertising biking companies and plastic comb business cards advertising hair salons. I know this wouldn’t work for all businesses but if you can work such a design into a business card then it’s a great way to stand out.
